I just saw the news on CNN and it said that Karl Malden passed away at the age of 97. He died in his sleep of natural causes.

A few weeks ago, Michael Douglas was being honored by AFI for a lifetime honor and Karl was unable to attend (I knew then that the end might be near for him), but he sent a video message. In it he said that he wished that "Michael had been his son".

Karl Malden and Michael Douglas made a wonderful series in the '70s called the Streets of San Francisco. It had a very wonderful character quality between the 2 actors that is not widely known when you view the reruns as they cut most of the character scenes from the episodes.

They were mentor and student on and off screen. Karl even had a hand in having Michael's father Kirk change his name from Isadore Demsky many years earlier. Karl changed his name from Mladen Sekulivich.

The man that played Mike Stone in that series was very much the same man in real life. I am glad that I had the chance to know both character and actor.

The likes of him will not be seen again in our lifetime.

Sorry, to ramble on ............but he meant a great deal to me personally.

Sad! Karl Malden was really a great actor. I remember his role in A Streetcar Named Desire. I remember The Streets of San Fransisco. That was a cool show. My sister's and I thought Michael Douglas was a "hottie". :lol

That is sad news. :cry I always liked Karl Malden. May he R.I.P.

I loved the series The Streets of San Francisco. That is when I became a Michael Douglas fan but I really enjoyed Karl in it also. He always seemed like a very nice man in interviews.
